The Supreme Committee for Delivery & Legacy (SC) appointed KEO to provide Project Management services to the Al Janoub Stadium, the host venue for the FIFA World Cup Qatar 2022™. Early works commenced in late 2013 with completion and handover in mid-2019.
The Al Janoub Stadium (formerly known as Al Wakrah Stadium) provides a tournament capacity for 40,000 spectators, designed in such a way that the top sections of the
grandstands can be removed to reduce capacity to 20,000. In collaboration with FIFA and the SC, the local organising committee for the FIFA World Cup Qatar 2022™ projects, the seats will be removed after the FIFA World Cup™ Tournament, and donated in countries requiring assistance to developing infrastructure for sporting activity.
Other features of the stadium and its surrounding area include climate controlled practice pitches, a multi-purpose indoor arena providing a variety of sports facilities and a school.
