How we will fight against Climate Change: Green Saudi Initiative & Green Middle Initiative

Announced by Crown Prince Mohammed bin Salman, the initiatives are set to apply a number of ambitious programs that will reduce carbon emissions by 60 percent in the region and plant 50 billion trees in the world’s biggest afforestation project.

As a leading global oil producer, the kingdom “Fully recognises its share of responsibility in advancing the fight against the climate crisis”, the Saudi Press Agency (SPA) quoted the Crown Prince as saying.

The initiatives will entail several sustainable milestones. Among these is the planting of ten billion trees within the kingdom in the upcoming decades, the equivalent to rehabilitating roughly 40 million hectares of degraded lands; raising the percentage of protected areas to more than 30% of its total land area, representing roughly 600,000km2; launching a number of initiatives to protect marine and coastal environments; reducing carbon emissions by more than 4% of global contributions through a renewable energy program that will generate 50% of the kingdom’s energy from renewables by 2030.

Also, the initiatives are aimed at promoting the use of clean hydrocarbon technologies, which are estimated to eliminate more than 130MT of carbon emissions alongside raising the rate of waste diversion from landfills to reach 94% in the kingdom.

How are we going to contribute to the initiatives?

Sustainable construction is the practice of creating structures and using processes that are environmentally responsible and resource-efficient throughout a building's life-cycle from siting to design, construction, operation, maintenance, renovation, and deconstruction.

At C-Quest, we are aware of our responsibility to promote and practise sustainable construction and development. We aim to drive disruptive and impactful change by embedding sustainability into everything we do. By helping our clients take a responsible and sustainable approach that contributes to a better world, we are working to shape the future of construction.

Our teams are proactive in assessing specified designs, building services, and construction methods and techniques, against opportunities for environmental innovation and best practice.
