Overview

The Al Janoub Stadium, formerly known as Al Wakrah Stadium, was designed by Zaha Hadid Architects and served as one of the key venues for the FIFA World Cup Qatar 2022 . The stadium accommodates 40,000 spectators in tournament mode, reducing to 20,000 seats in legacy mode.

The design draws inspiration from the curved sails of traditional dhow boats, symbolizing Qatar’s maritime heritage. The surrounding precinct integrates green areas, pedestrian routes, and connectivity to the Doha Metro, promoting accessibility and community use.

The development achieved GSAS 5-Star certification for energy, water, and environmental performance and became the first World Cup stadium globally to secure sustainability ratings for design, construction, and operation.
