Overview

The Etihad Rail Network Stage 1 forms a key component of the UAE’s federal transport infrastructure, comprising a 256-kilometre rail corridor linking the Habshan and Shah gas fields to Ruwais Port via Liwa Junction. The route includes both single and double-track segments, engineered to accommodate heavy freight movement and optimize industrial logistics between inland production zones and export terminals.

Developed at an estimated value of AED 4.7 billion, the network was established to streamline the movement of bulk commodities—primarily granulated sulfur—enhancing operational safety, reliability, and cost efficiency for national industries. The project supports the UAE’s long-term transport strategy by creating a robust, multimodal freight network that reduces transit times and enhances regional trade competitiveness.

The Etihad Rail development serves as the backbone for future network expansion, enabling inter-emirate and GCC-wide rail connectivity.
